Father Killed in Home Explosion of Tennessee Titans Cornerback Caleb Farley

August 22, 2023 (UPI) — Tragedy struck the home of NFL cornerback Caleb Farley as an explosion demolished the property in Mooresville, North Carolina, resulting in the death of his father and injuries to another individual, according to Iredell County officials.

Following a midnight emergency call, the Lake Norman Volunteer Fire Department, Mooresville Fire & Rescue, Troutman Fire Department, and Iredell County Sheriff’s Office swiftly arrived at the scene as part of the rescue operation, alongside Iredell County fire services and emergency management director Kent Greene.

Emergency responders promptly evacuated one of the victims from the house and transported them to Atrium Health-Main in Charlotte, where they received medical treatment for injuries that were fortunately not life-threatening. As the search of the debris ensued, the lifeless body of Farley’s father, Robert, aged 61, was discovered.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown, prompting investigations by the Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Notably, Farley, the proprietor of the residence, was absent during the incident. The third-year cornerback, drafted 22nd overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2021 NFL Draft, was not present at his home at the time of the explosion.

“I cannot fathom the level of grief he is currently experiencing,” expressed Titans safety Kevin Byard during Tuesday’s practice, addressing reporters in light of the devastating event. “This morning, I reached out to him via text to let him know he is in my thoughts and prayers.”

“Caleb is an individual with unshakable faith. I advised him to lean on his faith like never before, considering the numerous adversities he has faced. As his brother, I strive to support him in any way possible.”

Farley has played in a total of 12 games across his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans, registering a combined 10 tackles in nine contests during the previous season.
