A 28-year-old resident of Fullerton tragically lost his life in a fatal car accident when the Honda Civic he was driving swerved abruptly to avoid colliding with another vehicle and collided head-on with a Nissan Pathfinder, as reported by the police on Saturday.
The incident occurred at around 9 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of Richman Avenue and Orangethorpe Avenue, according to the Fullerton Police Department.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that a white 2006 Honda Civic and a grey 2016 Nissan Pathfinder had both sustained significant damage to their front ends.
According to the preliminary investigation, the Civic was heading east on Orangethorpe and approaching Richman at an excessively high speed when the driver veered into the opposite lane of traffic, apparently attempting to avoid colliding with a slower-moving vehicle ahead.
Unfortunately, this maneuver resulted in the Civic crashing into the Pathfinder, stated the police.
The Honda driver was immediately rushed to a trauma center where he was pronounced dead. To respect the privacy of his family, his identity is currently being withheld.
The driver of the Pathfinder, a 44-year-old Fullerton resident, and his 8-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries in the accident.
Individuals who witnessed the collision are urged to contact the police at 714-738-6812 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227.
