Fans Claim Taylor Swift Concert in Toronto Worth the Trip, Despite High Cost

Canadian fans who were lucky enough to secure tickets for Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated shows in Toronto are now faced with the additional expenses of travel and accommodation. The Canadian Press interviewed several dedicated fans, known as Swifties, to discuss the costs they are anticipating.

Ashley Stewart, a 24-year-old fan from Prince Edward Island, reminisced about seeing Swift during her Fearless tour in 2010. However, Stewart knew that this time she would have to travel as Swift was not planning to perform anywhere east of Toronto. She described the excitement of receiving the presale code for tickets as feeling like she had won a golden ticket. Stewart managed to secure two tickets for herself and her best friend, costing them just over $150 each. She estimated that a round-trip flight from Charlottetown would be around $500 per person, based on prices from November 2023. Stewart acknowledged that the flight would be the most expensive part but felt relieved that she had 14 months to save up.

Augine Mendita, a 28-year-old fan from Edmonton, was initially hoping Swift would perform in her city’s large football stadium. However, she was not surprised when Toronto was chosen as the location. Mendita and her friend managed to secure four tickets at $169 each. She noted that flying within Canada is expensive and estimated that flights and accommodations would cost around $500 per person. Mendita believed that saving a year in advance would make the expenses worth it.

Melissa Gunn, a 44-year-old fan from Nova Scotia, had an emotional experience while purchasing tickets for herself and her 10-year-old daughter. Gunn is planning to set aside “fun money” from each paycheck leading up to November 2024. She intends to track flight prices and potentially stay with family or friends to reduce accommodation costs. Gunn estimated that the trip would cost them $5,000, including tickets, hotels, and food. Despite the high price, Gunn felt that it was worth it for this once-in-a-lifetime experience with her daughter during her preteen years.

Overall, Canadian Swifties are eagerly budgeting and saving for the upcoming shows, fully aware of the costs but excited for the opportunity to see their favorite artist live.
