Thirty Seconds to Mars Releases New Album Amidst Pandemic

Actor and musician Jared Leto, known for his role as the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars, recently posed for a portrait to promote the band’s latest album titled “It’s the End of the World But It’s a Beautiful Day.” The album, born from the pandemic, brings an optimistic perspective despite the prevailing sense of doom.

Leto shares his thoughts on the album, saying, “I really feel like it represents where we’re at as a planet, as a people. You keep waiting for crazy to be over. But there’s just one more day. And sometimes it’s easy to forget that life is full of promise and hope and beauty.”

The sixth studio album by Thirty Seconds to Mars features shorter songs than their usual anthemic, soaring sound. Leto explains, “We really challenged ourselves to do as little as possible. We wanted there to be a focus on the vocal and really to allow what is there to be felt and heard.”

This album showcases the band’s versatility with its heavy hooks and catchy tracks. The lead single “Stuck” has already made it to the top 10 of Billboard’s Rock & Alternate Airplay and Alternative Airplay charts.

Leto expresses excitement for the album, stating, “It feels like we’re a brand-new band, like we’re at the beginning again and that’s an exciting place to be on your sixth album. We’re really breaking new ground for ourselves creatively and going to places we haven’t been before. And I think a lot of people are going to be surprised.”

While the actors’ strike has put a halt on movie and TV shoots, Leto found solace in working on music during the pandemic. He says, “I’m really grateful that I do have another outlet to share my creativity, and I share it with my brother. And that’s a really important thing for me. I’m compelled to do both.”

The album, which started taking shape early on during the pandemic, presents a range of emotions from dark and brooding songs about isolation and desperation to those reflecting hope and optimism. Leto collaborated with writer-producers Monsters & Strangerz, Ed Sheeran, Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, and Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons on various tracks.

Leto, who has excelled in both movies and music, feels that exploring different avenues of creativity is more accepted now. He remarks, “It all comes from the same place.”

As the band reaches new heights creatively, Leto acknowledges the importance of collaboration and relinquishing control. He says, “What a privilege it is to make a sixth album. It’s incredible. I never thought we would make a single album.”
