On October 14, large parts of the Western hemisphere will witness a rare annular solar eclipse known as the “Ring of Fire.” While you may wonder what this celestial event has to do with driving, Rolls-Royce has taken inspiration from the solar eclipse to create its latest masterpiece: the Ghost Ékleipsis.
Unlocking the Magic: The Ghost Ékleipsis
The Ghost Ékleipsis is a limited-edition luxury sedan based on the Ghost Black Badge model. This exclusive vehicle pushes the boundaries of Black Badge exclusivity, incorporating unique design elements inspired by the solar eclipse.
The exterior of the Ghost Ékleipsis is adorned with a custom Lyrical Copper coat. This dark shade shimmers and sparkles thanks to the incorporation of powdered copper pigments, creating a captivating effect when illuminated. Mandarin, a vibrant orange hue, highlights the Pantheon grille, brake callipers, and handpainted coachline, imitating the rays of sunlight during the eclipse’s progression from brightness to darkness.
A Celestial Symphony: The Interior Experience
Step inside the Ghost Ékleipsis, and you’ll be greeted by the mesmerizing Starlight headliner. A hallmark of Rolls-Royce craftsmanship, this unique feature has been enhanced for the Ékleipsis. As the doors close and the engine roars to life, the headliner’s tiny twinkling lights gradually darken, initiating a subtle light show that mirrors the stages of a solar eclipse. A total of 940 “stars” form a circle, representing the bright corona of light peeking around the edges of the moon during an eclipse. Surrounding this spectacle are 192 illuminating lights, recreating the ethereal sight of stars visible during daylight, a phenomenon only witnessed during a total eclipse.
The drama continues with the illuminated fascia, a true artistic masterpiece featuring 1,846 laser-etched “stars” meticulously crafted by a single designer over 100 hours. The bespoke timepiece integrated into the dashboard’s clock bezel showcases a 0.5-carat diamond, paying homage to the “diamond ring” effect visible before and after the moon passes in front of the sun. The two-tone seats, adorned with over 200,000 perforations, allow the Mandarin accents beneath the black leather to shine through, creating a stunning visual contrast.
A Testament to Exclusivity
To complete the essence of the Ghost Ékleipsis, Rolls-Royce has added bespoke touches such as illuminated treadplates, umbrellas with Mandarin piping, and a special indoor car cover. Although the price remains undisclosed, all 25 units of this limited-edition masterpiece have already been sold to eager clients.
