Experience electrified trail adventures with REI Co-op’s groundbreaking DRT e3.1 eMTB

Seattle-based outdoor retailer REI has unveiled its first in-house electric mountain bike, part of its Co-op Cycles brand. The eMTB is a motorized version of the DRT 3.1 mountain bike, incorporating Bosch power and offering full suspension. It is available in five different frame sizes.

Isabelle Portilla, VP of REI Co-op Brands, stated, “Experiencing the thrill of riding an e-bike is exhilarating, and we are excited to introduce a high-performance eMTB option for our customers. We believe that ebikes encourage more people to get out and ride, and this bike, with its premium components and pedal power, combined with REI’s maintenance support, delivers excellent value to riders so they can focus on enjoying the trails.”

The DRT e3.1 is equipped with a Bosch Performance Line CX mid-drive motor, providing 85 Nm (62.6 lb.ft) of torque and Class 1 pedal-assist up to 20 mph (32 km/h). It features a PowerTube 625 battery that can be removed from the downtube for indoor charging. Details on battery life are not provided by REI.

The bike comes with a SRAM SX Eagle 12-speed gearset for versatile riding options and is supported by a RockShox Recon Silver RL Solo Air suspension fork with 140 mm of travel and a RockShox Deluxe Select Plus RT rear shock to absorb bumps.

The aluminum frame is available in five sizes and features a riser handlebar, aluminum stem, and a dropper seatpost that can be adjusted when navigating technical sections. The eMTB is equipped with 27.5- or 29-inch double-wall alloy rims (depending on frame size) and 2.6-inch-wide Kenda Nevegal ebike tires. Four-piston Tektro hydraulic disc brakes provide reliable stopping power.

With a weight of 55 lb (25 kg), the DRT e3.1 eMTB can support a rider and cargo weight of up to 300 lb (136 kg). It is priced at US$4,999 and is initially available exclusively to co-op members until the end of October, after which it will be available for general sale. REI offers nationwide support to customers, including free flat fixes, a 20% discount on shop services, and 12 months of free adjustments (or 2 years for members).
