Streaming services are increasingly depending on pay TV.

Warner Bros. Discovery‘s Max is set to showcase over 200 episodes of recent AMC Networks content for a duration of two months, starting from Friday through Halloween.

This move comes as media companies seek ways to strengthen their streaming platforms and drive profitability. It also offers a larger audience for AMC Networks’ pay TV shows, despite the company having its own streaming service, AMC+.

In addition, Max will introduce more programming this fall due to the recent writers’ and actors’ strikes that have disrupted TV show and film production in Hollywood.

“Subscribers turn to Max to discover a wide range of captivating stories suitable for the whole family,” said Meredith Gertler, Executive Vice President of Global Content Strategy, Planning, and Analysis, in a press release. “The AMC+ collection pop up is an excellent example of how we can leverage innovative strategies to enhance our content offering.”

The AMC shows available on Max will be accessible to both ad-supported and commercial-free subscribers at no extra cost. An “AMC+ Picks on Max” tab will be featured on the app.

Although AMC’s flagship channel has had success with hit shows like “Mad Men,” “Breaking Bad,” and “The Walking Dead,” these shows will not be available on Max this fall.

AMC Networks shows coming to Max

  • Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, season one
  • Dark Winds, season one
  • Gangs of London, seasons one and two
  • Fear the Walking Dead, seasons one through seven
  • Killing Eve, seasons one through four
  • A Discovery of Witches, seasons one through three
  • Ride with Norman Reedus, seasons one through five

Instead, Max viewers will have access to episodes of newer AMC content, such as “Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire,” “Dark Winds,” “Fear the Walking Dead” (a spinoff of the recently concluded hit show), and the first four seasons of “Killing Eve.”

This partnership also allows consumers to watch AMC programming, which is already prominently featured on its own service, AMC+. Beloved shows like “Breaking Bad” and its spinoff, “Better Call Saul,” already have licensing agreements with Netflix and can be streamed there.

AMC, WBD tackle cord cutting

Like its pay TV counterparts, AMC has been grappling with the evolving media landscape as consumers increasingly opt for streaming over traditional bundled services. Last year, AMC laid off a significant number of employees before installing Kristin Dolan, spouse of chairman James Dolan, as its interim CEO.

In a memo to staff during the layoffs, James Dolan referred to it as a “confusing and uncertain time for the TV industry,” as previously reported by CNBC.

“It was our belief that the losses from cord cutting would be balanced out by gains in streaming,” he wrote. “However, this has not been the case. We are primarily a content company, and the avenues for content monetization are in disarray.”

Last year, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, Peacock, was reportedly considering acquiring AMC and its content library to expand its offerings.

For Warner Bros. Discovery, this partnership showcases their continued focus on expanding their streaming platform.

Last week, the company announced the addition of CNN news as a 24/7 live news hub to Max, starting in late September.

The company is also aiming to introduce sports to the streaming platform by the start of the Major League Baseball playoffs this fall, as previously reported by CNBC.

Earlier, the company rebranded HBO Max as Max, consolidating content from Warner Bros. and Discovery+ under one roof.

Disclosure: NBCUniversal is the parent company of CNBC and Peacock.
