However, despite his success, his performance against Lewis left fans craving for more. Despite attaining full mount on Lewis in every round, Almeida was unable to finish the fight against the renowned knockout artist.
Prior to his bout with Lewis, Almeida expressed his aspirations to become the backup for UFC 295, revealing his ambitious mindset. The heavyweight interim title fight between Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich was scheduled as the co-main event, after reigning champion Jon Jones sustained an injury, forcing him to withdraw from his scheduled fight against former champion Stipe Miocic.
Considering the grueling five-round battle Almeida endured against Lewis, it seems highly unlikely that he will be available as a replacement fighter for the upcoming co-main event.
