Exclusive Inside Look: Steve Miller Explores the Enigmatic $13M Haunted UWS Pad

Legendary rocker Steve Miller recently took an exclusive tour of a magnificent Gilded Age mansion on the Upper West Side. Sources claim that the mansion, located at 3 Riverside Drive, is adorned with intricate gargoyles and cherubs on its landmarked facade. This stunning property, measuring 37½ feet wide, is currently on the market for $12.99 million. Interestingly, this price is a significant drop from its original listing of $40 million back in 2012. However, despite its undeniable charm, Miller and his spouse, Janice Ginsburg Miller, decided that the 18,000-square-foot mansion was too much of a project for them and ultimately passed on acquiring it.

This remarkable home boasts six stories above ground and three below, accompanied by four terraces, Corinthian columns, a copper-trimmed roof, a gabled dormer, bay windows, and an impressive nine gaslit fireplaces. Additionally, the mansion offers breathtaking views of Riverside Park and the Hudson River. So, why hasn’t this stunning property found a buyer yet? It seems that its haunted past may be to blame. According to reports, the home’s original owner, socialite Maria Kleeberg, tragically took her own life during a dinner party in 1903. Shockingly, no one immediately called for help to avoid causing a scene, reminiscent of scenes from “Bonfire of the Vanities.”

Over the years, this magnificent property has been owned by a diverse range of individuals, including a sleep doctor, mining heir William Guggenheim, who rented out rooms to showgirls, and Regina Kislin, daughter of the Ukrainian-born metals trader Sam Kislin, with connections to Tamir Sapir, Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and even Russian organized crime, as per the FBI. The current owners purchased the mansion at an auction in 2017 for $15.8 million. Since then, they have completely gutted the interior, leaving behind nothing but a blank shell without walls, plumbing, or any finishing touches, according to sources.

This nine-story French Revival Renaissance home, designed by Charles Pierrepont Henry Gilbert and completed in 1898, boasts impressive ceiling heights ranging from 10 feet to a staggering 24 feet. “It’s an amazing house,” said a source. “But someone needs to take on the work, and right now, there doesn’t seem to be anyone willing to do so.” Despite coming with approved plans for nine bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and three levels of luxurious amenities by renowned Italian architect Achille Salvagni, potential buyers seem hesitant. The planned amenities include a half-Olympic-sized marble pool, a gym with steam and sauna facilities, a half-sized basketball court, a game room, a movie theater with stadium-style seating, a roof terrace, radiant heating, an onyx-walled hot tub with a wet bar, and even bulletproof windows.

The listing agents for this exceptional property are Ian Slater and Eduardo Martinez of Compass, along with Andrew Azoulay of Bespoke.
