Hublot and Takashi Murakami have joined forces once again, this time to create the limited edition MP-15 watch. This unique timepiece features a transparent design that showcases the intricate mechanics of the watch, with Murakami’s signature 12-petal flower motif crafted from sapphire encircling the central flying tourbillon. Limited to just 50 examples, the MP-15 has a sapphire case, caseback, crown, translucent flange, and strap, allowing sunlight to pass through the watch and illuminating the floral piece.
The central flying tourbillon of the MP-15 boasts a 150-hour power reserve and comes with a specially designed USB-rechargeable stylus for winding the watch. Despite the absence of color, Murakami’s playful touch is evident in the design, with two twinkling eyes and a smile integrated into the tourbillon. Additionally, the hours and minutes are indicated peripherally, a unique technical aspect made challenging by the hands passing beneath the tourbillon cage.
The watch’s innovative design features skeletonized components and no upper bridge, providing wearers with an unobstructed view of the intricate workings. Despite its complexity, the MP-15 is designed for easy reading with twelve white indices and black-plated hands coated in SuperLuminova for visibility in any light.
Takashi Murakami expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “Up until now, my work has focused on color. It was a really exciting challenge to start a whole chapter focusing on absolute transparency. The forms and volumes are perceived completely differently. With Hublot, we were able to preserve the individuality of my floral motif, but with a unique and different identity which was purer and perfectly in tune with Hublot’s mechanical universe. I’m very proud of the result!”
The MP-15 watch is set to retail for 300,000 CHF or approximately $320,000 USD and will be available through inquiry only on Hublot’s official site.
