Exciting Update: Cyberpunk 2077 Introduces Fully Functioning Metro System in Upcoming 2.1 Update

Rewind your thoughts to Cyberpunk 2077’s E3 2018 trailer and you’ll recall the key role played by Night City’s metro system in the game. Surprisingly, this transportation service was absent upon the game’s troubled release in December 2020. However, CD Projekt recently announced the restoration of the long-missing rideable metro system in the unexpected 2.1 update, set to arrive next Tuesday, 5th December.

The 2.1 update coincides with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077’s Ultimate Edition, which combines the base game and Phantom Liberty expansion. The announcement was made during a recent developer livestream, headlined by the anticipated return of the Metro system. “The metro was not in our plans for a long time,” revealed producer Monika Janowska during the presentation. “However, over time we’ve revisited our plan and… decided that it actually could be achievable.”

The officially named Night City Area Rapid Transit, the metro system offers an “immersive way to travel through the world,” featuring five lines and spanning 19 stations. It unlocks after the game’s Konpeki Plaza sequence and can be used as fast travel locations or as a leisurely metro ride experience for players who want to take in the sights.

The 2.1 update also introduces a personal radio called Radioport, allowing players to listen to stations while on foot and on the metro. Furthermore, it brings new vehicles, including five motorcycles and Johnny Silverhand’s original Porsche 911, expanded motorcycle mechanics, replayable car races, revamped accessibility options, and improved boss fights. More features are expected to be revealed in the patch notes ahead of the update’s release next Tuesday.

In addition, the update will include romantic partner hangouts, as announced by CD Projekt earlier this week. Full details will be shared in the patch notes ahead of the release next Tuesday. Furthermore, CD Projekt also revealed that the acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 4.3 million copies since its launch in September. Additionally, over 330 developers at the company are now working on the next Witcher game.
