Samsung Confirms AI in Future Smartphones, Galaxy S24 to Debut New Features
Samsung has officially announced its plans to incorporate AI into its upcoming smartphones, with the highly anticipated Galaxy S24 flagship set to showcase these new features. However, the company’s controversial decisions may pose potential challenges in the near future.
At the Samsung AI Forum 2023, the South Korean tech giant unveiled its generative AI model named “Samsung Gauss,” an homage to Carl Friedrich Gauss. Comprised of three core components, Samsung Gauss includes Gauss Language, which focuses on understanding human language and generating natural responses; Gauss Code, designed for software development and creating test cases; and Gauss Image, allowing users to create and modify images.
Following the public launch of Samsung Gauss, @Tech_Reve, a noted Samsung reporter, has revealed additional potential uses of the company’s generative AI abilities in the upcoming Galaxy S24. These include AI support for simplifying complex tasks, offering proactive results, and analyzing user behavior to provide advanced information on weather, traffic conditions, and app features.
With Samsung’s focus on incorporating AI into its smartphones, user privacy becomes a critical factor. The company aims to process personal data locally on the handset to prioritize user privacy, made possible thanks to the increased AI capabilities of Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets.
Samsung has also hinted a potential early next year launch for products featuring its generative AI models, potentially aligning with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 family. Notably, AI has emerged as a key feature in the current generation of smartphones, with Samsung’s commitment to AI validation among designers, engineers, and consumers.
However, questions surrounding the use of a mix of Exynos and Qualcomm chipsets in the Galaxy S24 family have arisen. Notably, Samsung will exclusively ship the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra with Qualcomm’s solution, while the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ models will consist of a mix of Exynos and Qualcomm. This may result in performance discrepancies between the two chipsets, prompting concerns among the community.
As the launch of the Galaxy S24 family approaches, Samsung will need to address these concerns to ensure a consistent AI experience across all handsets. The controversial decision to utilize two chipsets could become more pronounced in 2024, as AI continues to gain visibility in the market.
