The all-new 2024 Nissan Leaf, an electric vehicle produced in the United States, now qualifies for tax subsidies aimed at promoting electric vehicles.

From now until the end of the year, eligible buyers can receive up to $3,750 in incentives when purchasing the latest model year Nissan Leaf. The full $7,500 tax credit is available for electric cars that source at least 50% of their battery components and 40% of their mineral components from North America. However, because the Leaf meets only one of these requirements, buyers will receive half of the total incentive amount.

With the 2024 Leaf being manufactured and incorporating an American-sourced battery in Smyrna, Tennessee, it now participates in the new tax program introduced in April. In contrast, the 2023 model does not meet the necessary criteria for the tax credit. Previously, the discount was based on the number of electric vehicle sales. Nissan was projected to reach the sales threshold for eligibility for the full tax credit, but with the new program in effect, it will no longer qualify.

The Leaf holds a significant place in the history of electric vehicles, having entered the market alongside Tesla as one of the pioneering models in late 2010. However, due to the modified tax credit rules, the Leaf was no longer eligible for the EV tax credits. The 2024 Leaf has a starting price of $28,140 and was updated in 2023 to include a 40 kWh battery version with a range of 140 miles, as well as the SV Plus with a 60 kWh battery offering a range of 212 miles.

Moreover, in recent weeks, the accessibility of the EV tax credit has been improved. A modification now allows the credit to be applied at the dealership upon purchase, rather than during the tax filing process.
