Nintendo continues its movie endeavors with the confirmation of a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Directed by Wes Ball, known for the Maze Runner trilogy and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and produced by Zelda creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Avi Arad.

In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Miyamoto expressed his long-term involvement in the movie project and the anticipated wait for its completion. He said, “It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

Nintendo revealed that the movie will be co-financed by itself and Sony, with Nintendo covering over 50 percent of the expenses.

Nintendo’s statement about the Zelda film emphasized the company’s effort to expand its entertainment reach beyond gaming consoles by producing visual content based on its intellectual property and involving itself deeply in movie production to spread joy and entertainment globally.

Previously, there were rumors about a live-action Zelda series for Netflix, but the project never materialized.
