LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers have unveiled their 26-man roster for the upcoming National League Division Series against the D-backs. Notably, the team has opted for a balance of 13 pitchers and 13 position players.
However, there is one surprise omission. Infielder Amed Rosario did not make the cut, with Kolten Wong securing a spot instead. The D-backs are expected to rely heavily on right-handed pitchers, and Wong brings a left-handed option off the bench as well as strong defensive skills at second base.
Rosario, who was acquired from the Guardians prior to the Trade Deadline, has historically performed well against left-handed pitchers but has struggled against right-handers. On the other hand, Wong had a challenging season that led to his release by the Mariners. However, he has made adjustments to his swing since joining the Dodgers in August.
“It was a tough decision. We have versatile right-handed players in Kiké [Hernández] and [Chris Taylor],” explained Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “Given that the D-backs don’t have a left-handed starter, having Amed on the roster would have been redundant.”
On the pitching side, left-hander Ryan Yarbrough was left out for this series. With either Lance Lynn or Ryan Pepiot likely to start Game 3 and the other providing bullpen support, the Dodgers decided to add another reliever instead of Yarbrough. However, Yarbrough could be an option if the team advances to the NLCS.
