Exceptional Navy Veteran Overcoming Bear Attack Injury; Homecoming after Hospital Stay

  • Rudy Noorlander, a man who survived a grizzly bear attack, is set to leave the hospital soon.
  • During a news conference, Noorlander joked about his experience, saying, “The first root beer float is going to taste so amazing.”

A man who survived a grizzly bear attack and lost part of his jaw is preparing to be released from the hospital and has a message for the bear: “I will win round two,” said Rudy Noorlander, 61, during a press conference.

Noorlander was attacked by a grizzly bear on September 8 while searching for a lost deer in Custer Gallatin National Forest. He used his gun to scare away a small bear, but a larger bear appeared. Unable to fire his gun, Noorlander punched the bear in an attempt to defend himself.

The bear overpowered him, leaving him with injuries to his chest, arms, legs, and tearing off part of his lower jaw. Noorlander underwent multiple surgeries to reconstruct his face and will require speech therapy. Despite the challenges, he is grateful and looks forward to returning home and enjoying life.
