Ex-NRL Star Josh Dugan, Found Not Guilty of One Charge, Considers Legal Action against Cronulla for Unfair Dismissal Over Covid-19 Policy Breach

Josh Dugan, former NRL star, may take legal action against Cronulla for wrongful dismissal after being acquitted of one of the charges that led to his termination for breaching the NRL’s Covid-19 policies twice. Dugan was found guilty of one count of not complying with a noticed direction but was acquitted of another count. The 33-year-old is now considering suing his former club after beating one of the police charges against him. Dugan retired in September last year, shortly after the Sharks terminated his contract for the second breach of biosecurity rules. He had two months remaining on his contract reportedly worth $850,000 per year. Prior to his second breach, he was fined $50,000 by the NRL for violating Covid-19 protocols. The legal proceedings were delayed due to a Supreme Court ruling that questioned the legality of Covid penalty infringement notices. Dugan played 215 NRL games in his career and represented New South Wales and Australia.
