Even without speaking Irish, we can still grasp the conversation of these house hunters in the Bog Amach review on RTÉ

In the first episode of RTÉ’s property show “Bog Amach,” presenter Emer Mhic an Fhailí takes us on a tour of homes in Donegal. While the show is in Irish, the language doesn’t have much impact on our enjoyment. The couple featured in this episode, Una and Críostóir, recently returned from New Zealand and are looking to buy a house in their home county of Donegal.

Donegal is known for its relatively low house prices, with the average price being €155,000 compared to €470,000 in Dublin. This makes it an attractive location for homebuyers like Una and Críostóir. Throughout the episode, we see them explore three different houses, each offering a generous amount of space. Una points out that the utility room in one of the houses is even bigger than their kitchen in New Zealand.

However, despite the extensive house tours, we are left without a satisfying conclusion. Una and Críostóir don’t express a preference for any of the houses and mention that they have a lot to think about. This essentially indicates a “no” in terms of their decision to purchase a house. This lack of a definitive outcome takes away from the overall experience of the show.

In spite of this, Emer Mhic an Fhailí remains optimistic and unfazed. Her passion for real estate is evident as she describes “to buy” as her favorite verb in Irish. However, one notable absence from the episode is any mention of the word “mortgage,” which is a crucial aspect of the homebuying process.

In conclusion, “Bog Amach” has potential but needs significant improvement and possibly a revamped format in order to capture the audience’s emotional satisfaction and create a truly engaging property show.
