Evacuation Orders Lifted as Fires are Fully Contained

Two brush fires erupted on Wednesday on the southern edge of Cabazon, scorching nearly 100 acres. However, I’m delighted to report that both fires are now 100% contained, and all evacuation orders have been lifted, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The blazes were first reported around 11:45 a.m. in the vicinity of Almond Street and Esperanza Avenue, which is located approximately a mile south of Interstate 10. The Riverside County Fire Department immediately dispatched multiple engine and hand crews from both the county and U.S. Forest Service to the scene. These brave firefighters encountered flames spreading through medium brush at a moderate pace.

The first fire, estimated to be 15 acres, and the second fire, estimated to be 80 acres, were both contained to 75% by 4:30 p.m. I’m pleased to inform you that the fire department achieved full containment just before 10 p.m. This, of course, allowed them to lift all road closures and evacuation warnings.

To ensure utmost safety, two fire engines will remain on-site overnight, diligently patrolling for any potential hot spots.

Throughout the afternoon, four Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters battled these fires as they advanced eastward through the breathtaking San Gorgonio Pass.

I’m relieved to inform you that there have been no reports of damage stemming from these fires. However, the cause of the fires still remains undetermined, and an investigation is underway.
