Essential Factors for Restoring the Damaged Reputation of the FBI

The FBI has undergone significant changes and needs to regain its revered status.

Having served as an FBI special agent for over 12 years, I felt a calling until I decided to leave at the end of last year. Unfortunately, the FBI has been politically and socially weaponized, straying from its core mission of fighting crime. I found myself surrounded by partisan politics and social movements that I wanted no part of.

As a result, Americans lost trust in the FBI, leading to a decline in morale. It saddened me that I could no longer proudly identify as an FBI special agent. Under the current leadership, I saw no hope for improvement or a change in direction.

My decision to leave the FBI was reinforced as I watched FBI Director Christopher Wray’s testimony before Congress on July 12. He failed to address the glaring mistakes made by some FBI members that have tarnished the organization’s reputation. It’s challenging to perform your duties when you lack support and respect from those who are supposed to protect and serve.

Unless Director Wray acknowledges the ongoing politicization problems within the Bureau and holds accountable those responsible, nothing will change. According to Wray, everything is functioning as it should at the FBI, and there are no issues to address.

Wray believes that any negative perception of the agency is due to the media publishing misleading content focused on a few specific issues. He adamantly denies any continued politicization under his leadership.

However, many Americans, as well as retired and current FBI employees, respectfully disagree with his assessment. They are aware of individuals within the agency who contribute to the current weaponization of our government.

Instances of this weaponization can be observed in the FBI’s involvement in censoring Americans through Big Tech, the misuse of FISA, submissiveness to the Department of Justice, biased treatment in investigations based on political affiliation or social views, suppression of information related to the Biden family’s foreign business dealings, and other concerning actions.

These valid concerns lack reasonable explanations. Many current and retired FBI employees are also dismayed that an institution they held in high regard is now part of the problem.

Let me be clear. Not everyone at the FBI is politically motivated. It seems as though there are two factions within the Bureau.

“FBI 1” consists of hardworking individuals who joined to protect Americans, uphold the Constitution, and enforce the law equally. They remain dedicated to their sworn oath, diligently conducting investigations and solving crimes based on evidence.

“FBI 1” represents the majority of the Bureau, with many rank-and-file employees working tirelessly in the field offices. They believe that the director is out of touch with the reality of the organization and wish he would hold those responsible accountable.

On the other hand, “FBI 2” comprises employees who utilize their law enforcement authority to advance their political or social agendas. Their decision-making processes are influenced by their ideologies, affecting which cases they prioritize, how investigations are conducted, what intelligence reports are generated, and who receives promotions.

This politicization extends from executive management in Washington, D.C. to professional staff in various field offices. Unfortunately, the actions of “FBI 2” taint the reputation of the entire Bureau, undermining the incredible work of “FBI 1.”

Many Americans have reached their breaking point. They witness a two-tiered justice system and have lost hope for any meaningful change, even with brave whistleblowers coming forward. The public craves truth, transparency, accountability, reform, and results.

However, millions of Americans and many retired and current FBI employees respectfully disagree with his assessment that all is well at the Bureau. They are aware that offenders within the agency are contributing to the current weaponization of our federal government.

There are calls to abolish the FBI, but having worked within the organization, I believe that isn’t the solution. Brave whistleblowers, dedicated “FBI 1” employees, and many members of Congress are working tirelessly to address these issues.

While solutions exist, it will take time, patience, humility, a new administration, new FBI leadership, restructuring, and extensive reforms to restore the American people’s confidence in the Bureau.

Current and retired Bureau employees who have a deep love for this country will not allow the FBI to succumb to political agendas. Americans deserve better, and I am hopeful that the Bureau can weather this challenging moment in its history.

As the saying goes, where there’s a will, there’s a way. To all the honorable employees at the FBI, continue to uphold your oath with fidelity, bravery, and integrity. Keep the faith, America.
