If you are a driver travelling with pets, specifically dogs, it is highly recommended that you press a specific button every time you take a drive.
The spokesperson for LeaseCar UK, Tim Alcock, has urged drivers to locate and press the interior motion sensor button before leaving their animals inside the vehicle.
By doing so, the car alarm sensors inside the vehicle will be disabled, preventing any movement from the dogs from triggering an alarm sound.
Mr. Alcock emphasizes that the button is usually found on the overhead console in the center of the vehicle.
He explains, “This feature is particularly useful if you need to keep the car locked while leaving dogs or passengers inside the vehicle.
“Before exiting and locking the car, simply press the button (typically located on the overhead console). Now, any motion from inside the car will not be detected and the security alarm will not be activated.”
It is important to note that each vehicle may have a unique method of deactivating this tool, so motorists may need to refer to their vehicle’s handbook if they encounter any difficulties.
Volkswagen explains, “Interior motion sensors can usually be turned off using the switch found on the lower B-pillar between the front and back doors.
“If the switch is not located on the B-pillar, please consult your owner’s manual.”
In addition, BMW of Sudbury disclosed that drivers must press a button on their key fob to deactivate the motion sensors in their cars.
They state, “When locking the vehicle as usual, simply press the BMW (logo) once.
“Then, within 10 seconds, press the BMW once more. The light below the mirror will then remain solid for approximately one second before flashing normally.
“This indicates that the motion sensors inside the vehicle have been deactivated.
“Therefore, if you have your dog inside the car and leave it unattended, your dog will not trigger the alarm.”
For Ford owners, they have the option to select the type of alarm they want through their infotainment screen. In ‘Reduced Guard’ mode, interior sensors are turned off.
However, it is important to remember that motorists may need to manually select their desired mode each time they leave their vehicles, and this habit must be developed by pet owners.
Ford warns, “Selecting Reduced does not permanently set the alarm to reduced guard.
“It only sets it to reduced guard for the current ignition cycle. If you frequently set the alarm to reduced guard, select Ask on Exit.”
