The New York Jets took the stage on “Hard Knocks,” HBO and NFL Films’ popular training camp series, for their much-anticipated 2023 debut. Unsurprisingly, all eyes were on Aaron Rodgers. The former Green Bay Packers quarterback, who was acquired via trade in April, embraced his role as the focal point of the premiere episode.

Here are the standout moments featuring Rodgers in the first episode:

  • The show juxtaposed footage of Rodgers in the Jets’ facilities and uniform with archival shots of Joe Namath, the only quarterback to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl victory.
  • Young players expressed their admiration for Rodgers, with former Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman even promising to tell his newborn son about playing with the future Hall of Famer. Defensive lineman Quinnen Williams also praised Rodgers for joining the team and providing support.
  • Rodgers acknowledged that many NFL teams are hesitant to participate in “Hard Knocks” due to concerns about distractions. However, his own involvement in the premiere suggested that he is not worried about it.
  • Rodgers offered teaching tips and friendly banter to his young successor, Zach Wilson, particularly commenting on Wilson’s choice of a tight-sleeved jersey for the preseason opener.
  • Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett received praise from Rodgers, who revealed their successful collaboration during their time together in Green Bay. Rodgers playfully teased Hackett about past criticisms from Broncos coach Sean Payton but emphasized their strong bond.
  • Rodgers expressed his love for New York City but acknowledged that winning is the ultimate goal. He also humbly noted that the fan base’s adoration is based on his performance so far.

Episode 2 of “Hard Knocks” featuring Rodgers and the Jets will air on Tuesday, August 15 at 10 p.m. ET.
