Enraged Phil Parkinson Warns Man United Goalkeeper Nathan Bishop to Stay Away from Wrexham Team Following ‘Irresponsible and Clumsy’ Tackle That Injured Paul Mullin’s Lung in Pre-Season Match

Fuming Phil Parkinson warns Man United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop to stay away from his Wrexham side after his reckless tackle causes serious injury to star striker Paul Mullin in pre-season game

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson was left furious after his star striker Paul Mullin suffered a punctured lung following a sickening challenge from Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop in their pre-season friendly in San Diego.

Bishop, who was playing for a young Red Devils team, made a disastrous impact on the game with his late challenge in the 11th minute, leaving Mullin injured on the field.

After being treated for several minutes, Mullin had to be assisted off the pitch while wearing an oxygen mask. It was later revealed that he had sustained significant damage to his lung.

Expressing his frustration, Parkinson criticized Bishop’s tackle and advised the 23-year-old goalkeeper to stay away from his team without any intention of accepting apologies.

‘I’m extremely angry about it. It was a clumsy and reckless challenge in a pre-season game, and I’m not satisfied with it at all. I haven’t seen the goalie, but for now, it’s best if he stays away from us,’ said Parkinson.

Despite the severity of the tackle, Bishop managed to avoid a red card but was met with boos from the crowd for the remainder of the first half. He was eventually substituted at halftime.

Bishop took to Twitter to apologize to Mullin:

‘Just wanted to share my sincerest apologies to @PMullin7. It was a complete misjudgment and a genuine accident with no malicious intent! Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back scoring goals soon!’

This incident mars Bishop’s chances of making an impact at United, as he has struggled to secure playing time since joining the club in January 2020. He has yet to make a competitive senior appearance for the Red Devils.

Following the challenge on Mullin, Bishop conceded two goals in the first half. Despite his efforts, Bishop had little chance of saving either goal, as Elliot Lee and Aaron Hayden both scored from close range.

United managed to pull one goal back just before halftime through teenager Marc Jurado, but their hopes were dampened when their captain, Dan Gore, received a straight red card early in the second half. Wrexham took advantage of the situation and sealed a 3-1 victory with a goal from substitute Sam Dalby.

Bishop’s disastrous performance may likely be his last for United, as he has been linked to a move away from Old Trafford during the summer transfer window. Championship side Sunderland has reportedly initiated talks with United regarding a potential deal for the goalkeeper.
