July 6 (UPI) — President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit South Carolina to unveil a $60 million investment by Enphase Energy. The investment aims to expand manufacturing supply chains across the United States and has the potential to create 600 new jobs in South Carolina, according to the White House.

The broader deal seeks to establish six new shipping lanes across the country in collaboration with multiple manufacturers, which could contribute to the creation of up to 1,800 jobs nationwide. Additionally, it will help to increase solar power accessibility to millions of homes, as stated by the White House.

This announcement is part of a three-week “investing in America” campaign led by the administration. During this campaign, officials will make numerous public appearances to highlight the impact of President Biden’s legislative agenda, which focuses on infrastructure, manufacturing, and clean energy.

President Biden plans to acknowledge the private investments that have supported his Inflation Reduction Act, with U.S. companies contributing over $500 billion to manufacturing and clean energy investments since he took office.

In South Carolina alone, companies have invested $11 billion in the manufacturing sector, while the administration has provided $2.6 billion in funds for infrastructure projects and other improvements.

Last week, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited South Carolina to announce a $23 million plan to construct a pedestrian bridge and a transit hub, enhancing connectivity between neighborhoods and college campuses in downtown Orangeburg.

BMW is investing $1 billion to produce electric vehicles in Spartanburg and an additional $700 million to build a new high-voltage battery assembly plant in Woodruff.

Redwood Materials is also allocating $3.5 billion to construct a battery materials facility near Charleston, which is estimated to generate 1,500 jobs while supporting the state’s supply chains.

A growing number of U.S. manufacturers are transitioning to clean-energy operations, which has the potential to create even more jobs, according to the White House.

Prior to this, South Carolina received nearly $1 billion in federal funds to provide high-speed Internet access to all corners of the state. Furthermore, millions of federal dollars have been allocated to address carbon emissions, travel delays, and watershed and flood-prevention issues in the state.

South Carolina is also one of eight states receiving $300 million in federal funding to rebuild multiple aging bridges across the country.

On Feb. 3, South Carolina will host the first race of the 2024 Democratic primary.

Sen. Tim Scott and former Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina are competing for the Republican nomination to run against President Biden.
