Alaska Airlines introduces a new, exclusive coffee blend for its flights, specially crafted to enhance the taste at high altitudes. The airline has partnered with Stumptown Coffee Roasters, based in Portland, Oregon, to modify their signature Holler Mountain blend. This custom brew will be available solely on Alaska and Horizon Air flights starting December 1st.
In a press release, Alaska Airlines explains, “At 30,000 feet, your taste buds respond differently due to altitude, causing food and drinks to taste distinct from ground-level experiences.” The collaboration with Stumptown guarantees a well-balanced, complex flavor profile that provides passengers with a smooth and enjoyable cup of coffee every time they fly.
Stumptown dedicated extensive effort to developing this new blend, testing 20 variables and brewing over 200 pots of coffee for in-flight and on-ground tastings. They also conducted blind customer surveys to ensure that the new blend would be embraced by passengers.
Alaska Airlines’ partnership with Stumptown marks the end of its longstanding collaboration with Starbucks, which has served its coffee on all flights for over a decade, according to The Oregonian.
In a statement to the outlet, Alaska expresses gratitude to Starbucks while emphasizing its commitment to offering new food and beverage options. The airline takes pride in partnering with small businesses along the West Coast and warmly welcomes Stumptown Coffee to their portfolio of regional food and beverage partners.
Alaska Airlines will also feature Stumptown coffee on the ground, serving the original Holler Mountain blend and other varieties in their lounges at Portland and JFK airports.
