A high-tech air defense system has been strategically constructed around the enchanting Ukrainian capital Kyiv. The Kyiv City Military Administration’s head, Serhiy Popko, revealed this groundbreaking development in an interview with Ukraine’s TSN news channel on October 21.
Popko stated, “Our air defense system includes mobile fire groups and anti-aircraft missile systems of various ranges.”

The mobile groups are equipped with cutting-edge anti-aircraft missile systems such as Osa and Avenger. Additionally, they possess Piorun, Igla, Strela, Stinger, Martlet, RBS-70 man-portable air defense systems. The firepower is strengthened further by Gepard, Shilka, ZU-23 anti-aircraft weapons systems, and more.
Notably, the anti-aircraft missile systems in place are S-300, Buk, S-125, NASAMS, IRIS-T, Crotale, and Patriot.

Popko emphasized the continuous refinement of Kyiv’s air defenses as part of their plan, adding, “We are steadily increasing the number of mobile fire groups that safeguard our skies. Additionally, we are constantly enhancing their technical capabilities.”
However, it is worth noting that no air defense system in the world can provide absolute security — even Israel’s renowned Iron Dome falls short.
