Accusations against chess prodigy Hans Niemann have resurfaced, with world champion Magnus Carlsen accusing him of cheating during their match in the Sinquefield Cup. Niemann, currently ranked 69th globally, is participating in the World Junior Chess Championship until Sunday. Piers Morgan, confronting Niemann, brought up the “hypothetical” speculation on his alleged cheating methods. NPR reports on this controversial exchange.

During his talk show interview with Niemann, Piers Morgan boldly asked, “Have you ever used anal beads while playing chess?” This theory was first proposed by a chess commentator and later supported by Elon Musk, but was quickly deleted. Niemann dismissed the theory as “not serious” and expressed his disappointment at being accused of cheating. When Morgan continued to bring up the topic, Niemann suggested that Morgan’s curiosity might be personal. According to CNN, Niemann’s response was, “Your curiosity is a bit concerning, you know, maybe you’re personally interested.”

Niemann categorically denied using anal beads, as NPR explains the alleged technique involved vibrating anal beads controlled remotely to guide a player’s moves. Carlsen’s accusations against Niemann are not unfounded. Niemann admitted to online cheating twice at ages 12 and 16, but maintains that he has always played fairly in in-person games.

Niemann previously filed a $100 million lawsuit against Carlsen, which has since been dismissed. Carlsen has expressed his willingness to face Niemann again.
