Empowering Recovery: Matthew Perry Foundation Offers Support for Addiction Struggles

Detective-Actor Matthew Perry tragically passed away on October 28 at the age of 54. In honor of his memory, a foundation bearing his name has been established. The Matthew Perry Foundation, as announced through a press release, is now accepting donations to support individuals struggling with addiction.

“To carry on Matthew Perry’s unwavering dedication to assisting others battling addiction, we are embarking on a mission to commemorate his legacy by establishing the Matthew Perry Foundation. Guided by his personal words and experiences, and fueled by his desire to make a positive impact on as many lives as possible,” declares the foundation’s inaugural statement.

The organization emphasizes Perry’s desire to be remembered primarily as someone who offered aid to those facing addiction.

“When I pass away, I don’t want ‘Friends’ to be the first thing people think about. I want them to remember that I helped others,” expressed Perry on the “Q With Tom Power” podcast in 2022 while promoting his memoir. “I will spend the rest of my life proving that. Addiction is a formidable foe, but with unity and progress every day, we can conquer it together.”

Perry, renowned for his role as Chandler Bing on the beloved sitcom “Friends,” was transparent about his battles with drug and alcohol abuse. Following a jet ski incident in 1997, he developed an addiction to Vicodin and sought rehabilitation in 2001. Subsequently, he converted his former Malibu mansion into a sober living facility called the Perry House, which operated until 2015.

The Matthew Perry Foundation is sponsored and managed by the National Philanthropic Trust, a leading public charity and the driving force behind donor-advised funds, having raised over $49 billion since its establishment.
