Emmy Awards Postponed Indefinitely

The highly anticipated Emmy Awards have been officially postponed due to the ongoing strikes that have brought Hollywood to a standstill. According to a report by Variety, vendors have been notified that the show will not take place on the original date of September 18. A new date has yet to be announced, but the TV Academy is pushing for November, while Fox is considering a safer bet of January 2024. The strikes show no signs of ending, making it uncertain when the awards can proceed. This marks the first time the Emmys have been postponed since 2001, when it was rescheduled to November after the 9/11 attacks.

The nominations for the 75th Emmy Awards, which saw HBO shows like Succession dominate, were announced just days before the actors joined the writers in their strike. According to the BBC, under union rules, SAG-AFTRA members are prohibited from making promotional appearances while on strike. As a result, the awards ceremony would have taken place in an empty room without a host, and members of the Writers Guild of America would not have provided any material for hosts or presenters. Despite the delay, final-round voting for the Emmys is still scheduled to take place in August. (Read more Emmy Awards stories.)
