Eminem Urges Vivek Ramaswamy to Cease Rapping ‘Lose Yourself’

Eminem, the renowned rapper, has demanded Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican presidential candidate, to cease using his music during the campaign. In response, Ramaswamy appears to be willing to comply.

The music publisher BMI sent a cease-and-desist letter to Ramaswamy’s lawyer on August 23rd, expressing Eminem’s objection to the use of his music at campaign events. This demand came after Ramaswamy, a tech entrepreneur and political newcomer, performed Eminem’s hit song “Lose Yourself” at a campaign stop during the Iowa State Fair.

“BMI has received a communication from Marshall B. Mathers, III, professionally known as Eminem, objecting to the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign’s use of Eminem’s musical compositions,” stated the publisher in the letter, which was obtained by NBC News and initially reported by The Daily Mail.

The letter also warned that any performance of Eminem’s works by the Vivek 2024 campaign would be considered a breach of the agreement with BMI, reserving all rights and remedies.

In response, the Ramaswamy campaign indicated that their candidate will not perform the song again, saying, “Vivek just got on the stage and cut loose. To the American people’s chagrin, we will have to leave the rapping to the real slim shady,” according to a spokesperson for the campaign.

It is not uncommon for politicians to receive cease-and-desist letters regarding their choice of campaign songs. Former president and 2024 Republican frontrunner Donald Trump alone has received numerous letters from popular artists such as the Rolling Stones, Queen, Adele, and Pharrell Williams.
