Billy McFarland, the founder of the infamous Fyre Festival in 2017, is back with a new venture.

After serving time in federal prison for his involvement in the 2017 festival fiasco, McFarland recently announced on his Instagram page that tickets for “Fyre Festival 2” are now on sale. In a subsequent update, he revealed that the first batch of tickets has already sold out.

Reflecting on his journey, McFarland shared in a video that his inspiration for the new festival started during his seven-month stint in solitary confinement. He even wrote a 50-page plan to “make the impossible happen.”

“Fyre Festival 2” is set to take place in the Caribbean towards the end of 2024, although specific dates and musical acts have not been announced yet.

McFarland expressed his excitement in a Tuesday update, stating that “Fyre Festival” has been the most talked-about festival since 2016. He also mentioned working with top logistical and infrastructure partners this time around.

Moreover, McFarland assured that the revenue from ticket sales will be held in escrow until the final date is announced.

The Fyre Festival in 2017 gained notoriety for its disastrous outcome. It was heavily promoted by social media influencers as an extravagant getaway featuring luxury accommodations, celebrity encounters, gourmet food, and performances by renowned artists. However, attendees who had paid exorbitant ticket prices arrived to find disorganization, incomplete tents, and subpar food, including infamous limp cheese sandwiches.

Many of the scheduled musicians eventually pulled out of the festival due to the chaotic planning.

In 2018, McFarland received a six-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to wire fraud, bank fraud, and making false statements. He defrauded investors and ticket vendors of approximately $26 million and engaged in a separate ticket scam while on bail.

After serving nearly four years of his sentence, McFarland was released from prison in 2022.
