Elon Musk’s X Announces Roseanne Barr’s New TV Show

Roseanne Barr, the comedian who faced consequences for making racist and anti-Semitic remarks on Twitter, has found a new home on Elon Musk’s rebranded platform X. She will be partnering with the anti-woke retail company Publicsq, which describes itself as an Amazon for conservatives. Publicsq, which recently went public via SPAC, will be the exclusive sponsor for Barr’s upcoming show on X. While the format of the show is still uncertain, it is expected to be provocative and align with Musk’s desire for original content on the platform.

Barr expressed her admiration for Musk, stating that whatever they want to do on X will be supported. She believes it is a way for people to combat totalitarianism. The unlikely collaboration between Barr and Publicsq came about after a video of Barr joking about Holocaust denialism and Jews controlling the media was removed by YouTube for violating hate speech policies. Musk showed support for the comedian, emphasizing the importance of comedy on the platform.

Publicsq, founded by CEO Michael Seifert, aims to become a leading online shopping destination with a focus on values like freedom and family. The company has a history of sponsoring individuals and programs that have been “canceled” by popular culture. Despite Barr’s controversial history, Seifert believes in upholding free speech values and sees the partnership as an opportunity to support dissenting voices.

While there have been no discussions about limitations on the topics Barr will address on her show, both Barr and Publicsq believe it will align with X’s moderation policy, which emphasizes free speech. Barr’s son, Jack Pentland, ensures that the show will be funnier than those on other platforms since X is the only platform that allows complete free speech.

Musk’s vision for X is to create a digital town square that encompasses all voices, including shows hosted by Tucker Carlson and support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign. He has also expressed interest in bringing left-leaning voices, such as Rachel Maddow and Don Lemon, to the platform. X now allows long-form texts and videos, as well as tools that compensate content creators with a portion of the ad revenue. However, balancing free speech with hate speech limitations remains a challenge for the platform, as it has seen a significant loss in advertising dollars since Musk acquired it.

By joining forces with Publicsq and Barr, Musk continues his mission to foster free speech and bring diverse voices to X while generating original and engaging content for the platform.
