Elon Musk Introduces Groundbreaking AI Chatbot ‘Grok’ That Outperforms ChatGPT

Elon Musk and his AI startup xAI have recently introduced “Grok,” an AI chatbot that claims to outperform OpenAI’s initial version of ChatGPT in various academic tests.

The purpose of developing Grok is to create AI tools that can support research and innovation, with the aim of benefiting humanity, as explained by Musk and xAI in a post on Nov. 5 on X (formerly Twitter).

Musk and the xAI team highlight a “unique and fundamental advantage” possessed by Grok, which is its real-time knowledge of the world via the X platform.

“It will also provide answers to intriguing questions that are typically rejected by most other AI systems,” Musk and xAI stated. “Grok is designed to answer questions with a touch of humor and a rebellious attitude, so it’s not recommended for those who dislike humor!”

The engine behind Grok, known as Grok-1, was assessed in multiple academic tests in mathematics and coding, outperforming ChatGPT-3.5 in all of them, according to shared data from xAI.

However, it did not surpass OpenAI’s most advanced version, GPT-4, in any of the tests.

“It is only surpassed by models that were trained with significantly larger amounts of training data and compute resources, like GPT-4,” Musk and xAI stated. “This showcases the rapid progress we are making at xAI in training LLMs with exceptional efficiency.”

xAI mentioned that Grok will be available on X Premium Plus at $16 per month, but currently, it is only accessible to a select number of users in the United States.

Grok is still in a “very early beta product” stage, with xAI noting that it will improve rapidly with each passing week.

The xAI team also stated that they will implement additional safety measures over time to prevent malicious use of Grok.

“We firmly believe that AI has immense potential to contribute significant scientific and economic value to society, which is why we are committed to developing reliable safeguards against catastrophic forms of malicious use.”

“We are dedicated to ensuring that AI remains a force for good,” xAI added.

Grok’s launch by the AI startup comes eight months after Musk founded the company in March.
