Elon Musk Expresses Explicit Views on Mark Zuckerberg as Threads App Surpasses 100 Million Users

Elon Musk recently stirred up controversy with a tweet calling Mark Zuckerberg a “cuck”, followed by a proposal for a “literal dick measuring contest”. This provocative language has become an integral part of online discourse, particularly among right-wing groups who use the term “cuck” as a derogatory slur against conservatives they deem weak or too liberal.

Musk’s inflammatory comments were in response to speculation about his potential performance in such a contest. Despite the indecorous nature of the suggestion, Musk seemed eager to participate with a reply stating, “This would be so inappropriate & lacking in dignity… let’s do it!!!”

These remarks are part of Musk’s ongoing feud with Meta, the company behind Twitter competitor Threads. Last year, Musk acquired Twitter for a staggering $44bn and made significant changes to the platform, including workforce reductions and a more relaxed approach to content moderation. However, analysts now estimate the value of the app to be around $15bn.

Musk has even threatened legal action against Meta, claiming similarities between Threads and his own app, as well as suggesting that Meta’s platform falsely projects a sense of bliss. In an attempt to assert Twitter’s uniqueness, Musk promoted a post from Linda Yaccarino, Twitter’s CEO, highlighting the positive impact of Threads’ launch on Twitter’s growth.

Despite these ongoing battles, it remains uncertain how much impact Threads has had on Twitter’s user base. External estimates suggest that Twitter’s usage is currently in decline, although the true extent of this decline is still unclear.

Nevertheless, Meta proudly announced that Threads had reached over 100 million signups within its first five days, making it the fastest-growing online platform to achieve this milestone, surpassing even ChatGPT.

Threads shares some similarities with Twitter and other emerging social media sites. It allows posts of up to 500 characters, including links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes long.

While Threads may have achieved rapid growth, it still has a long way to catch up to Twitter, which boasted nearly 240 million monetizable daily active users as of July last year.
