Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, mentioned that he might need surgery and is planning to undergo an MRI for his neck and upper back, according to a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Musk, who also holds senior leadership positions at X, SpaceX, and Neuralink, added that he will receive more information during the week. The automaker’s shares closed down approximately 1% on Monday.
If Musk, who is 52 years old, requires surgery, it could temporarily divert his attention from his various executive roles. Moreover, it might hinder the highly anticipated face-off between him and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta.
These two influential billionaires have been engaging in online banter ever since Meta launched Threads, its new text-based social media platform, which is often regarded as an alternative to X. Although they have agreed to engage in a physical fight, it remains uncertain whether a cage match will actually transpire.
On Sunday, Musk announced that the fight would be live-streamed on X and that all proceeds would be donated to a charity supporting veterans. In a post on Threads, Zuckerberg stated that he had proposed August 26 as the bout’s date, but Musk had yet to confirm.
“Not holding my breath,” Zuckerberg wrote.
