Elliott Wenzler has officially taken on the role of Western Slope political reporter at the Aspen Times and other related publications in Glenwood Springs, Vail, Steamboat Springs, Summit County, and Grand County. With a base in Denver, Wenzler’s coverage will focus on the state Capitol, Colorado’s congressional delegation, and how policy decisions affect the residents of the Western Slope. Furthermore, she will report on various subjects such as campaign finance, candidates, races, as well as issues like water, housing, wildlife, and public lands.
Ray Erku, Editor of the Post Independent, expressed the importance of keeping readers well-informed on these matters, saying, “Having Elliott on board will be enormously beneficial in achieving this goal.”
Originally hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Wenzler has resided in Colorado since 2019. In her previous positions, she covered state politics, water and housing issues, and more for The Colorado Sun. Prior to that, Wenzler worked for Colorado Community Media, focusing on local politics, business, and features in Douglas County. Her storytelling approach is centered around providing detailed narratives that offer crucial context to the challenges affecting the lives of Coloradans.
Wenzler’s journalistic efforts have received recognition from the Colorado Press Association and the Colorado Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Notably, her environmental reporting on a malfunctioning sewage system in Castle Pines earned her the first-place award in the most recent Colorado Press Association Better News Media Contest. Her work has also been featured in esteemed outlets like Colorado Public Radio’s “Colorado Matters” and the podcast “City Cast.”
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Wenzler is a passionate outdoor enthusiast, actively participating in various adventure sports offered by the state. She particularly enjoys sport climbing and snowboarding.
