Ella Irwin Resigns as Twitter’s Head of Safety

Reportedly, Twitter’s head of trust and safety, Ella Irwin, has resigned from her position after just seven months under CEO Elon Musk. Irwin took on the role in the fall of 2022 after Musk officially acquired the social media platform. Although she did not provide any details about her resignation, she did state to The Wall Street Journal that she had always been honest in her work. This resignation comes after Musk publicly criticized Twitter’s decision to limit the reach of a transphobic video by The Daily Wire. The content moderation decision would have fallen under Irwin’s responsibilities. Musk has not directly addressed Irwin’s departure, but he did suggest it was “director related.” Despite Musk’s history of making transphobic comments on Twitter, Linda Yaccarino is set to replace him as CEO. Yaccarino will focus primarily on business operations while Musk focuses on product design and new technology.
