Elizabeth Warren Criticizes GOP Senator Tommy Tuberville’s Support of White Nationalism

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) criticized Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) for his defense of white nationalists, asserting that they have different beliefs as “Americans.”

“We should be alarmed by what’s happening. This country is in crisis, and Senator Tuberville is normalizing white nationalism and racism,” Warren stated at a Black media roundtable.

Tuberville’s protest against the Pentagon’s abortion policy, which has resulted in an unprecedented hold on military promotions, has left the Marine Corps without a leader for the first time in 150 years. When asked to clarify his previous comments about white nationalists serving in the military, Tuberville dismissed their racist beliefs as simply “different beliefs.”

Warren criticized Tuberville’s remarks, stating that he is suggesting that white nationalists are just like any other Americans and should be armed and included in the military, which undermines the values of democracy.

Tuberville backtracked on his initial comments, acknowledging that white nationalists are indeed racists. However, he has not apologized for his earlier remarks.

Warren also criticized the Supreme Court for endorsing legacy admissions and ruling against programs that promote access to higher education for Black and Latino students. She argued that Tuberville’s and the Court’s decisions are part of a regressive movement.

Warren expressed her frustration with the inequality in college admissions, where white families receive special assistance while marginalized communities are denied any opportunities to level the playing field.

Warren stressed the urgency of rejecting the normalization of white nationalism, emphasizing that waiting until the 2024 election is not an option. “We need to take action now. They are trying to perpetuate a version of America that has always existed. We must call it out for what it truly is.”
