Eleven Individuals Arrested by Organized Retail Crime Taskforce for `Flash Mob’ Robberies

A multi-agency task force has been established to combat the surge of “flash mob” retail robberies in the Southland. Since its formation earlier this week, this task force, known as the Organized Retail Crime Taskforce (ORCT), has already made 11 arrests, according to authorities on Thursday.

The ORCT consists of personnel from various law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles, Glendale, Beverly Hills, and Burbank police departments, the California Highway Patrol, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

In a statement, the LAPD highlighted the recent increase in “flash mob” retail crime incidents in Los Angeles and neighboring cities. These incidents involve multiple suspects targeting retail establishments across the region.

The LAPD stated, “Upon the inception of the ORCT, detectives took on the responsibility of investigating nine cases related to organized retail crimes in Los Angeles. Many of these cases have connections to retail crimes in neighboring cities.”

As of Wednesday, the ORCT has made 11 robbery arrests directly linked to four of the nine cases they are investigating, according to the LAPD.

The four locations involved in these cases are the Versace store at Beverly Center in Los Angeles, Warehouse Shoe Store in Highland Park, Nordstrom at Topanga Mall in Canoga Park, and Yves Saint Laurent at The Americana at Brand in Glendale.

The investigations are ongoing, and individuals with information or knowledge of additional suspects are urged to contact Detective Arnold of the Organized Retail Crime TaskForce at 818-374-9420. Tips can also be provided to 877-LAPD-247 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
