El Segundo Secures Spot in Little League World Series U.S. Title Game with 2-1 Victory

The all-star team from El Segundo advanced to the U.S. championship game of the Little League World Series on Saturday after a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Northeast Seattle Little League. The game took place in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Declan McRoberts, the pitcher for El Segundo, held Northeast Seattle to just one run in the first four innings. He also contributed offensively by singling in El Segundo’s first run. Brody Brooks took over as the pitcher for the final two hitless innings and secured the save. This win marked El Segundo’s third consecutive victory, ensuring their survival in the tournament.

In the top of the sixth inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, Northeast Seattle had a chance to turn the game around. Owen Luke reached first base on a dropped third strike that was deemed a wild pitch. On the next pitch, Larson Eng hit a grounder to Louis Lappe, the shortstop for El Segundo. Lappe momentarily dropped the ball but quickly recovered and made a fantastic play to Colby Lee, who stepped on second base for the force out, ultimately ending the game in El Segundo’s favor.

El Segundo is set to face the all-star team from the Needville (Texas) Little League, which emerged as the champion of the Southwest Region, in the U.S. championship. In their previous encounter on Monday, El Segundo faced a 3-1 defeat against Needville, leading to their placement in the elimination bracket.

The U.S. champion will then compete against the winner of the international championship game between teams from Taoyuan, Taiwan and Willemstad, Curacao, in the world championship on Sunday.

McRoberts once again showed his prowess at the plate by singling in Jaxon Kalish, who had also singled, with two outs in the top of the first inning. This set the tone for El Segundo’s performance.

El Segundo continued to dominate in the second inning, as Quinn Boehle’s single, a passed ball, a wild pitch, and Finley Green’s one-out single combined to secure another run.

Northeast Seattle managed to score one run in the fourth inning. Nolan Chang hit a double with one out and was driven home by Trey Kirchoff’s single. However, it was not enough to turn the tide.

McRoberts, who pitched for El Segundo, gave an outstanding performance by allowing only one run and six hits in four innings. He struck out five batters, walked one, and ultimately earned the victory. Brooks took over the mound for the final two hitless innings, striking out three batters and walking one.

Trey Kirchoff, the pitcher for Northeast Seattle, demonstrated his skill by pitching a complete game. Despite his efforts, he surrendered eight hits and two runs (one earned) and struck out four batters while walking one over the course of five innings.

Brooks stood out with two hits, contributing to El Segundo’s total of eight hits compared to Northeast Seattle’s six.
