El Segundo All-Stars Set to Take on Texas Team in Monday’s Little League World Series

The El Segundo all-star team is set to continue their journey in the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. They are only four victories away from the coveted championship title.

On Monday, El Segundo will be facing the Needville (Texas) Little League all-star team, the Southwest Region champion, in a game scheduled at 4 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time in the renowned Howard J. Lamade Stadium. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN2, and a watch party will be held at Rock & Brews El Segundo.

The winner of this game will proceed to compete against the victor of the matchup between the Northeast Seattle Little League, the Northwest Region champion, and the Nolensville (Tennessee) Little League, the Southeast Region champion.

However, the losing team will still have a chance to stay in the tournament by playing in an elimination bracket game against the Smithfield (Rhode Island) Little League all-star team on Tuesday.

This will be El Segundo’s second appearance in the World Series. Previously, they triumphed over the New Albany (Ohio) Little League all-star team, the Great Lakes Region champion, with a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, the game was shortened due to inclement weather and Little League curfew regulations.

Needville comes into this matchup with a 2-0 record. They emerged victorious against the Media (Pennsylvania) Little League all-star team, the Mid-Atlantic Region champion, with a score of 2-1, as well as the Fargo (North Dakota) Little League all-star team, the Midwest Region champion, with a score of 6-2.

El Segundo has an impressive record of 15-1 in five tournaments this summer. They only suffered a single defeat against the Sherman Oaks Little League all-star team in the opening game of the Southern California State Tournament. However, they quickly bounced back and secured a rematch victory, kickstarting their five-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Needville boasts an 18-1 record in five tournaments and has emerged victorious in their last 12 games.

Although Needville faced a setback against the Hallettsville Little League all-star team, they were able to secure wins against the Sweeny Little League all-star team with a score of 6-2 and Hallettsville with a score of 19-0. The game against Hallettsville was called off after three innings due to the run rule.

Needville is located approximately 40 miles southwest of downtown Houston and has a population of 3,089 people according to the 2020 census.

In support of the El Segundo players’ parents attending the World Series, a GoFundMe account has been created to help cover their expenses. Donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-el-segundo-little-league-all-stars.
