The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is closely monitoring tropical storm Egay, which is currently located 610 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte. Egay is moving at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour and has maximum sustained winds of 95 kph with gusts of up to 115 kph. The storm has intensified into a severe tropical storm as it moves westward over the Philippine Sea. Pagasa predicts that Egay will move slowly for the next 12 hours before accelerating west-northwestward or westward until tomorrow morning. Afterward, it will turn generally northwestward. Wind signals may be raised in parts of the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas due to the effects of the storm. Pagasa suggests that the highest wind signal raised may be Wind Signal No. 3 or 4, potentially over Extreme Northern Luzon. The agency also states that Egay is expected to reach typhoon status within 24 hours and may strengthen into a super typhoon by Tuesday. There is a possibility that Egay will make landfall near extreme Northern Luzon by Wednesday and over the east coast of Taiwan on Thursday morning.
