The Republican border-state strategy of sending illegal immigrants to Democrat-run cities and states is yielding results.
Last Thursday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul wrote a letter to President Joe Biden, appealing for federal aid. Significantly, she acknowledged the source of the problem.
“The city and state are shouldering a financial burden on behalf of the federal government,” Hochul, a fellow Democrat, stated regarding the influx of illegal immigrants into New York.
“I cannot ask New Yorkers to pay for what is fundamentally a federal responsibility,” urged Governor Hochul. She implored the federal government to take swift and substantial action to fulfill its obligation to New York State.

During a press conference following the release of the letter, Governor Hochul expressed further grievances regarding the release of illegal immigrants by the Biden administration.
Isn’t it interesting how Governor Hochul has changed her tone? Up until now, Democratic politicians have been hesitant to criticize the White House regarding border security or acknowledge the origin of the problem.
A recent poll sheds light on this sudden shift. The Siena College poll, published earlier this month, reveals that New Yorkers are highly dissatisfied with the surge of illegal immigrants in their state and largely hold Democrat leaders responsible.
“New Yorkers, including Democrats, Republicans, and independents, overwhelmingly view the recent influx of migrants to New York as a serious problem for the state,” noted Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.

While New York is unlikely to become a red state anytime soon, the crime issue not only swung seats from Democrat to Republican in the 2022 midterm elections but also likely gave the GOP overall control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Discontent with lawless Democrat policies has worsened, and New York voters blame Hochul, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and, above all, Biden.
For Democrat Party activists, open borders and the idea that all immigration, whether legal or illegal, is beneficial are matters of faith. However, rank-and-file voters and independents may not share the same belief.
“There is no question in my mind that the politics of this is a disaster for Democrats,” Howard Wolfson, a former deputy and political adviser to former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, stated in an interview with The New York Times.
“This issue alone has the potential to cost Democrats the House because it is such a huge issue in New York City, and the coverage of it is clearly heard and seen by voters in all of these swing districts in the suburbs,” Wolfson added.
He described the issue as a “ticking time bomb” for Democrats.

I would argue that the bomb has already detonated.
Since Biden took office in January 2021, an unprecedented number of illegal immigrants have crossed the U.S. southern border. This has had dire consequences for numerous overwhelmed communities, especially in Texas and Arizona, which have borne the burden of the border crisis for years. Therefore, it’s ironic for New York to now throw a pity party.
While it would be ideal for the federal government to fulfill its duties and enforce our laws, until that happens, border states have limited options to “fix” the situation. Their only recourse is to mitigate the damage.
The Biden administration has made it abundantly clear that it wants to flood the country with illegal immigrants by keeping the border nice and open, or rather, “secure.”
This is where border-state busing comes into play.
Instead of shouldering the entire burden of the border disaster led by Biden, Republican governors such as Greg Abbott in Texas, Ron DeSantis in Florida, and Doug Ducey in Arizona have chosen to transport illegal immigrants to places like Chicago, New York, the District of Columbia, and even Martha’s Vineyard.

While it may not be the ideal solution, if the federal government insists on imposing open borders on the country, why not at least make the proponents of this policy bear a larger share of the consequences?
Of course, politicians in the aforementioned destination cities were quick to point fingers at the Republican governors for their newfound troubles. Certain left-wing political commentators even went so far as to compare the transportation of illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, a posh liberal vacation spot, to Nazism.
Biden’s allies in the mainstream media have done their best to “contextualize” the immigration issue to shield the president from criticism.
However, just like with the surge in crime, the American people cannot be fooled forever when they witness the tangible effects of misguided policies in their own neighborhoods.
Thanks to Biden, the bill for once-affordable virtue signaling in sanctuary cities has come due.
If Democrat politicians want federal aid to care for illegal immigrants, they should demand that the White House restore the policies of the previous administration and make a genuine effort to regain control of the border.

Excuses no longer hold weight, as the border crisis has transformed into a national crisis, and the blame for this mess rests on the “big guy” in the Oval Office.
Demands from Democrats for additional funding should be met with a resounding “no” until the root cause of the problem is effectively addressed.
