Eerily Accurate Predictions Made Regarding Alleged Serial Killer

The New York Times has revisited its own 2011 article on the Gilgo Beach serial killer, and the findings are chillingly accurate. Criminologists who were interviewed by the newspaper at the time predicted that the suspect would be a white man, aged between his mid-20s and mid-40s, who was either married or in a relationship. They believed that he lived in close proximity to where the bodies of four young women were discovered in December 2010: Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Megan Waterman, 22; Amber Lynn Costello, 27; and Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25. Furthermore, they expected him to be well-educated, well-spoken, financially stable, and the owner of an expensive vehicle. When the recent arrest of Rex Heuermann occurred, many of these predictions turned out to be true.

Now a 59-year-old, Heuermann is a married, white architect who resides about 15 miles away from Gilgo Beach. During the time of the alleged murders, he owned a Chevrolet Avalanche truck. One criminologist, upon hearing the news of Heuermann’s arrest, expressed satisfaction, stating, “When I heard the news yesterday, I sort of had to smile to myself because it was pretty much what I had predicted.” This same criminologist highlighted the fact that someone who pursued a career in engineering and architecture would possess the organizational skills and attention to detail that are necessary for committing such crimes. Heuermann has been charged with the murders of three of the women collectively known as the “Gilgo Four,” and he is the primary suspect in the fourth woman’s slaying. The full article from the New York Times can be found here, and additional coverage can be accessed below:

  • According to People, authorities claim that Heuermann obsessively searched for photographs of his victims as well as their relatives.
  • Furthermore, Heuermann allegedly made at least five phone calls to the family of one victim over a period of two months after her disappearance, before her body had even been found. Fox News provides additional details about this disturbing behavior.
  • In an examination of public records and documents related to Heuermann, CNN discovered a history of tax problems and other issues.
  • A designer who was part of the same networking group as Heuermann recalls a chilling conversation in which he asked her about the Gilgo Beach murders, as reported by the New York Post.
