  • Unruly passengers aboard a September 29 easyJet flight caused the plane to be diverted.
  • Police intervened after the flight to Spain’s Canary Islands made the diversion, the airline said.
  • Four passengers on the flight were removed before the plane went to its final destination.

A group of disruptive passengers aboard an easyJet flight from England to Spain’s Canary Islands on September 29 caused the plane to be diverted, resulting in a significant delay. The airline informed Insider that police had to intervene.

In a statement, easyJet revealed that flight 2011, originating from Manchester, UK, and heading to Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, was rerouted to Lanzarote due to the unruly behavior of some passengers during the flight.

The exact nature of the passengers’ disruptive actions was not immediately disclosed.

Upon landing in Lanzarote, which is just a short distance from Tenerife, local police met the aircraft, according to easyJet.

Lottie Phillips, a spokesperson for easyJet, informed Insider that four passengers were removed from the flight and “offloaded” in Lanzarote before the plane continued to its final destination in Tenerife. The matter is now in the hands of local authorities, preventing easyJet from providing further comments.

The consequences faced by the unruly passengers remain unclear.

EasyJet emphasized in its statement that their cabin crew is well-trained to assess and handle such situations promptly and appropriately to ensure the safety of all passengers and the flight.

The airline stated, “While incidents like these are rare, we take them very seriously and have a zero tolerance policy for abusive or threatening behavior towards our crew or passengers.”

EasyJet expressed apologies to the other travelers on board the flight for the inconvenience caused.

The safety and well-being of passengers, crew, and ground agents always remain EasyJet’s top priority, the airline stressed.

Flight data from FlightAware indicates that the easyJet plane arrived in Lanzarote at 11:17 a.m. local time and departed for Tenerife just over an hour later, landing in Tenerife at 1:20 p.m.
