Dylan Mulvaney incident sparks controversy on Bud Light’s social media

Bud Light’s social media accounts have resumed their regular postings, bouncing back from a hiatus that followed their controversial collaboration with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. However, the brand is now facing a barrage of harsh criticism from Twitter users. The positive and uplifting posts, featuring images of people enjoying Bud Light, have received negative replies and derogatory comments. One user even went as far as saying, “I’d rather drink urine.” Despite this, Bud Light continued to share feel-good content over the weekend. One tweet featured two women walking outdoors, with one of them holding a case of Bud Light. The caption read, “Summer Sunday made easy.” Unfortunately, Photoshop-savvy users cropped the image to make it seem like the woman was about to throw the case away or that they were walking through a garbage dump. Another tweet, posted on Saturday, showed a man with an open bottle of Bud Light with the caption, “It’s Saturday. Let’s have a good day.” A snarky response came in, saying, “You haven’t had a good day in almost four months.” These tweets were flooded with negative responses from those who pledged to boycott Bud Light due to the Mulvaney partnership. Despite all the backlash, Bud Light proceeded with posting a tweet promoting their concert series, the “Bud Light Backyard Tour,” on Thursday. On Twitter, a ratio refers to a tweet that generates more comments than likes or shares, indicating a mostly negative reception. One user playfully acknowledged the challenging task faced by Bud Light’s social media manager, jokingly saying, “Shout out to the Bud Light intern who has the difficult job of hiding every reply.” Another user claimed that Bud Light had lost its customer base and only those unaware of the boycott were still drinking their beer. They added that the brand had brought this situation upon themselves and made drinking beer a political matter. The Post has reached out to Anheuser-Busch for comment on these developments. In a tweet last Wednesday, Bud Light displayed cans of their beer in an icy cooler with the caption, “Wednesday night beers.” A beer drinker took the opportunity to declare their intention to opt for a different brand, saying, “Ah yes. Gonna grab a Blue Moon.” Many consumers have initiated a boycott against Bud Light due to their partnership with Dylan Mulvaney. However, Bud Light’s attempts to regain their customers’ trust have been met with significant resistance. Those participating in the boycott intend to avoid purchasing Bud Light until the brand’s parent company issues a full and sincere apology. Sales of Bud Light have dropped by 23.6% over the Fourth of July holiday, extending the downward trend that has been observed nationwide in recent weeks.
