Dune 2 Release Postponed: Wormsign Unavailable Until 2024

This piece is a product of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, highlighting the crucial role of writers and actors on strike in making the film discussed here a reality.

Shai-Hulud, Kraven the Hunter, and the Ghostbusters might seem like an unlikely trio, but they all have something in common: Their movies have been rescheduled to 2024. Warner Bros. has decided to move their highly anticipated sequel to a later date, specifically March 15, 2024. So, does Paul Atreides (portrayed by Timothée Chalamet) have any reason to be concerned about the infamous Ides of March?

Dune 2 has taken over the release date originally assigned to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which has now been pushed back to April 12, 2024.

As Variety astutely points out, “Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, actors are prohibited from engaging in press activities for any struck films, which means that the star-studded Dune cast would have been absent from the promotional circuit for this big-budget production.” Alongside Chalamet, this impressive ensemble includes Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Josh Brolin, Christopher Walken, Rebecca Ferguson, Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, and many others.

Last month, Sony made the decision to postpone the release of Kraven the Hunter and the unnamed Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel to next spring, while also removing Spider-Man: Beyond the Spiderverse from its release calendar entirely. The upcoming Spiderverse sequel was originally scheduled for March 2024 but is now caught in release limbo. According to Variety, Warner Bros. contemplated moving other films from its fall lineup, but as of now, The Color Purple (December 25) and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 20) will remain unaffected.

It remains uncertain whether other studios will follow suit and reschedule their upcoming releases, or if the underlying issues leading to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes will be resolved.

In the meantime, why not revisit the world of Dune?
