Drake Becomes Proud Owner of Tupac’s Crown Ring, Acquired for Over $1 Million in Auction

Rap sensation Drake has made headlines as the proud new owner of the iconic crown ring once worn by the late Tupac Shakur. The ring was acquired through an auction, with Drake shelling out over $1 million for the priceless piece on Thursday.

Tupac donned this custom-designed ring on his left ring finger during his final appearance at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards, just days before his untimely death in Las Vegas at the age of 25. The ring featured an engraving that read “Pac & Dada 1996,” symbolizing his engagement to actress Kidada Jones.

Drake proudly revealed himself as the mysterious buyer by sharing a photo of the ring on his Instagram story. Sotheby’s, the prestigious auction house behind the sale, also confirmed the Grammy-winning rapper’s ownership of the crown ring.

This remarkable piece of hip hop memorabilia shattered all expectations by selling for triple its estimated value of $300,000. It now holds the title of the most valuable hip hop artifact ever sold at auction, surpassing the $1 million mark.

The ring’s design was a collaboration between Tupac and his godmother, Fula, during several months of work in 1996. Tupac, who had recently been released from prison and signed with Death Row Records, drew inspiration from the crowns worn by medieval European kings as a symbol of his own self-coronation. It represented his triumph over a challenging year in his tumultuous life, which he celebrated with resilience.

The crown-shaped ring boasts a striking ruby at its center, surrounded by two pave diamonds. The choice of ruby was deliberate, as it holds symbolic ties to royalty and wealth.

In a separate development, Las Vegas police recently revealed that they conducted a search of a home in connection with the ongoing investigation into Tupac’s murder. The home belonged to Duane Keith Davis, also known as Keffe D, a 60-year-old individual.

Despite the passage of nearly three decades, the investigation into Tupac’s killing continues. In 2019, retired Los Angeles police detective Greg Kading claimed that the murder had already been solved. According to Kading, Davis confessed his involvement in Tupac’s killing while being questioned about the murder of Biggie Smalls.

Undeniably, this acquisition marks a significant moment for Drake and the hip hop community as a whole. The crown ring serves as a tangible reminder of Tupac’s unparalleled talent and enduring legacy.
