Maryanne Trump Barry, the older sister of former President Donald Trump and a retired federal judge, has passed away at the age of 86.
Barry served as a federal appellate judge in Philadelphia, retiring in 2019 after a civil misconduct inquiry was initiated following allegations of tax evasion by her brother and their siblings, as reported by The New York Times.
After Donald Trump’s election, Barry resigned from her court staff and took inactive status in early 2017, according to The Associated Press.

Barry was initially appointed to the U.S. District Court for New Jersey in 1983 and later appointed to the 3rd U.S. Court of Appeals by President Bill Clinton in 1999.
The Daily Voice first reported Barry’s death, and the Trump campaign has yet to comment on the news.
Following a 2018 New York Times report alleging a tax scheme and potential tax evasion by the Trump family, Barry came under scrutiny. The Times reported that Fred Trump and his children had inflated the family fortune and transferred properties using questionable tax planning.
Barry retired voluntarily in April 2019, putting an end to a civil misconduct inquiry that was based on the accusations in the Times report.
In 2020, The Washington Post reported on secretly recorded audio of Barry criticizing her brother as a liar, which was released by Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, to support her book about the Trump family, “Too Much and Never Enough.” This led to Trump allies coming to his defense after the audio was made public.
Barry’s passing comes after the death of Donald Trump’s younger brother, Robert Trump, in 2020, and his ex-wife Ivana Trump in 2021.
