Dolly Parton Has No Interest in Creating an AI Legacy for Eternity

With the help of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, holograms have allowed numerous music legends to preserve their legacies for future generations.

However, Dolly Parton, the iconic country singer, has expressed her disinterest in pursuing this path.

Despite being 77 years old, Parton shows no signs of slowing down. She has a new album, “Rockstar,” scheduled for release in November. During a recent news conference in London, she was asked whether she would consider posthumously living on through AI, such as virtual concerts using holograms of herself.

Parton responded, “I think I’ve left a great body of work behind. I don’t know how they’ll keep me around.”

She added with a laugh, “I’ll have to decide on how much of that high-tech stuff I want to be involved in because I don’t want to leave my soul here on this Earth. I think with some of that stuff, I feel like I’ll be grounded here forever, so when I’m gone, I want to fly with it.”

Nevertheless, Parton is determined to ensure that her legacy endures.

She added, “I’ll be around. We’ll find ways to keep me here.”

Over the years, AI technology has advanced and been used to create virtual performances for deceased or retired musicians. The response from musicians and fans has been mixed.

In 2022, ABBA launched “ABBA: Voyage,” a virtual concert experience in London that sold over a million tickets.

Victoria Beckham, a member of the Spice Girls, expressed openness to a hologram concert similar to “ABBA: Voyage” instead of a reunion tour for the band.

However, a hologram performance of the late Michael Jackson at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards received both praise and criticism, with some fans finding it “creepy.”

During an interview with 94.5 The Buzz, Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park described hologram performances as “creepy” and confirmed that the band would not use a hologram to create a virtual performance with their late vocalist Chester Bennington.
